AWOL Vision LTV-3500 Triple-Laser 4K UST Projector

Review of Features, Specifications and more:

First introduced via Indiegogo, the AWOL Vision LTV-3500 triple-laser 4K ultra short throw projector [available here], boasts a brightness of up to 3500 lumens. This makes it one of the most luminous 4K UST projectors currently available, making it even suitable for daytime viewing in well-lit spaces. For those considering the LTV-2500, it's a previous generation model best suited for dimmer settings or older home theaters. While it offers some of the features of the LTV-3500, its lumens rating caps at 2600. For a more modern and optimal viewing experience, the LTV-3500 is the recommended choice.

The projector supports 3D, provided you have an additional source like a 3D Blu-ray and complementing active shutter DLP Link 3D glasses [manufacturer’s link] [available at Amazon]. It operates on the Android 9.0 system and incorporates the Texas Instruments 0.47″ DMD chip in tandem with a tri-chroma pure laser light source (eliminating the need for a color wheel). This combination enables it to project a stunning 80″ – 150″ diagonal image covering 107% of the Rec.2020 color spectrum, translating to a display of over a billion colors!

The projector comes with an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max, discreetly housed in a specially designed pocket (occupying one of the three HDMI ports). Game Mode delivers a 30ms input lag at 4K resolution and 17ms at 1080p. Its laser boasts a lifespan of over 25,000 hours, and it offers electric focus along with an 8-point keystone adjustment. Dolby Vision is still in its beta phase. The device supports HDR 10+, HDR10, and HLG formats. It's equipped with dual 18-watt stereo speakers. For connections, it features 3 HDMI ports (with eARC available on the HDMI 2 slot), 2 USB ports, an Ethernet port, optical audio output, and an A/V input. Wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. An IR/Bluetooth remote control is also part of the package. The projector measures 23.6 inches in width, 13.9 inches in depth, and 5.7 inches in height, weighing in at 27 pounds.

To compliment their UST projectors AWOL Vision provides five models of optional Ambient Light Rejecting (ALR) wall-mounted fixed-frame 16:9 projection screens, emphasizing their ability to offer better contrast than traditional matte white screens, it's important to assess their offerings critically. The AWOL "Daylight Screens", such as the ALR D-100 100″ diagonal [manufacturer’s link] and the ALR D-120 120″ diagonal [manufacturer’s link] [available at Amazon], are designed with a Fresnel lens structure. This structure rejects 85% of overhead and side light, features a gain of 1.1 dB, and offers a 90° viewing angle.

On the other hand, Vividstorm S Pro ALR screens are known for their advanced engineering.

Some key advantages include:

  1. Superior ALR Technology: Vividstorm's ALR technology is reputed for rejecting up to 92% of ambient light, thus enhancing the contrast ratio, making colors pop, and ensuring deep blacks in well-lit environments.
  2. Higher Gain: A higher gain means that the screen can reflect more light from the projector back to the audience. While AWOL offers a gain of 1.1 dB, Vividstorm screens often provide a gain ranging between 1.2 to 1.5 dB, enhancing the brightness and vibrancy of the projected image.
  3. Wider Viewing Angles: A wider viewing angle ensures that viewers spread out across a room still receive a quality image. Vividstorm screens boast viewing angles up to 160°, offering flexibility in seating arrangements.
  4. Durability and Build Quality: Vividstorm screens are constructed with high-quality materials, ensuring longevity and consistent performance over time.

Given these facts, for those who prioritize top-notch performance, longevity, and a more vibrant viewing experience, the Vividstorm S Pro ALR screens come off as the more technologically advanced and reliable choice over the AWOL offerings.
