Optoma CinemaX D2 Smart 4K UST DLP Projector

Review of Features, Specifications and More:

The freshly released 2022 Optoma CinemaX D2 Smart ultra short throw laser projector [available here] is poised to become a bestseller. Both avid console and PC gamers, alongside audiophiles, will appreciate the marked enhancements compared to the P2 UST projector. It boasts a low latency gaming mode, ensuring rapid input with a 16.9ms response time at 4K 60Hz for console gaming and an even swifter 4.4ms at 1080p 240Hz for PC gaming. Moreover, eARC facilitates the transmission of uncompressed digital audio to any eARC-compatible surround sound system.

The D2 Smart is a 3D-compatible projector when paired with optional DLP Link 3D glasses. This single-chip DLP 4K ultra short throw model harnesses the capabilities of the Texas Instruments 0.47″ DMD and operates on Google's Android TV platform. Accompanied by the Hako mini streaming player dongle and its remote, users can effortlessly access a range of streaming platforms such as Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Paramount+, YouTube, and more. Additionally, it's designed for seamless integration with Alexa and Google's voice-controlled smart home systems.

In terms of specifications, the projector's brightness stands at 3000 ANSI lumens with a contrast ratio of 1,800,000:1. It promises a laser longevity of up to 30,000 hours and is compatible with both HDR and HLG. The package includes a backlit remote powered by AAA batteries and features built-in stereo speakers, each of 10 watts. For connectivity, it provides 3 HDMI 2.0 ports (with one being occupied by the dongle), eARC, a USB-A power port with 1.5A designated for the dongle, an RS-232 port, S/PDIF optical digital audio output, and a 3.5mm analog audio outlet. It measures 22.7″ in width, 5.1″ in height, and 15.1″ in depth. The projector comes with a two-year warranty for parts and labor, and the light source warranty extends to five years or 12,000 hours, depending on which milestone is reached first.

For its projection capabilities, it can display images ranging from 85″ to 120″ diagonally. To project a 100″ diagonal image, as detailed on page 42 of the English owner’s manual, the projector should be positioned 9.1″ away from the wall on a stand capable of supporting its 15.1″ depth. This places the total distance at a minimum of 24.2″ from the wall. Furthermore, the lower edge of the projected image will hover between 13.8″ and 18″ above the projector's resting surface. For optimal setup, Optoma suggests a projector stand height of 13″ to 18″.
